Dorchak said the campaign's ultimately decisive, strategic goal was to inform the voting public about the sport's "corruption and cruelty." She said, in general, a dog died every three days and suffered devastating injuries from broken legs to severed necks running in circles to enrich bettors and dog-track owners.

The English Greyhound Derby is considered one of the most prestigious greyhound races in the world. First held in 1927, it has since become an annual event organized by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB). The race takes place at the Towcester Greyhound Stadium in Northamptonshire, England.

Eight dogs compete in each race, and there may be 10 or 11 races to a program. Dog tracks in the United States are made of sand and loam and are normally 1/4 mile (400 metres), most races being at 5/16 or 3/8 mile.
